Rotation started working on my ubuntu install on p1510d when I installed the package xserver-xorg-video-i810 from edgy. It may have worked from dapper too but I didn't try that first. |

FYI ... I'm running a testing version of Kubuntu Feisty, with the driver from conan.de installed. An update from a few days ago broke my touchscreen driver. :( I'm guessing it was an xorg update but not sure. The version is xorg 1:7.20-ubuntu1. |

I reinstalled Kubuntu, held back xorg 7.1, and upgraded everything else. The touchscreen worked again, so I can confirm that it's xorg 7.2 that breaks this driver. |

Update:
I'm running Kubuntu 7.04 (installed from and rc and updated). Most everything works great out of the box. SD slot works CF slot works keyboard works touchstik works touchscreen works (I use Sam Engstrom's driver) screen rotation works (not automatic use xrandr or krandrtray or best use a script that calls the touchscreen) cpu freq scaling works suspend works hibernate works (I don't use it often so I haven't tested for a couple of weeks) I don't have internal Bluetooth but external works great external/dual monitor works (1680 X 1050 twinhead setup)(requires configuration and i915resolution) external HD/DVD's work
screen brightness does not work unless you directly write to the file. (someday I will write a script and attach it to the function keys) buttons in screen bezel do not work (no clue where to start).
for notetaking look at Jarnal for text input look at OneStroke (make your own stroke file) for on screen keyboard I use Klavier but there are several to choose from for handwriting recognition give up for now (doesn't work that well in Windows either) for ebooks look at FBReader (it really needs an easier way to turn pages)

I try to make the touchscreen work with Ubuntu 7.04 - (I am relatively am new to Linux) I want to try both options(samengstrom/conan).
let's start with conan. "Copy the file "fujitsu_drv.o" to the appropriate location ("/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input"). Insert the lines below to the file "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" or "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"." I don't have this folder, but i think i found different one in my machine - /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/ so i moved the file, followed the instructions but nothing happend. when i wrote update-rc.d stylus default 90 i got the 'how to use this app' text... anyway after restart i couldn't see the GUI, it told me that i have problems with the xorg. i had to edit the xorg file (with VIM!), delete the new lines and reboot...
any ideas?
let's move to samengstrom. I don't understand what hes instructions:
"There's now also a real X driver available here, but so far the button click actions have not been very intuitive. If you don't have the X11::GUITest module, you can install it from the CPAN shell: # perl -e shell -MCPAN cpan> install X11::GUITest" What is X11::GUITest module and how do i verify that I have it? What is Cspan shell?
"At every boot you should run the following commands (as root): # setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq 4 port 0x220 autoconfig # chmod a+rwx /dev/ttyS0" how do i run those commands at every boot?
"After that run one of these scripts in X:" What is X and how do i run scripts inside it?

update:
I was able to follow conan's instruction. the path to Xorg.conf in Ubuntu is different - it's here : /etc/X11. But it didn't help. even after restarting i could't make it work. btw, when i try running the setserial command- setserial /dev/ttyS0 port 0x0220 irq 4 autoconfig or setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart 16550a port 0x220 irq 4 I get the message: "device or resource busy"
here is my xorg file:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I wasn't able to use the Conan driver after updating to xorg 7.2. I have no idea if it's something that can be fixed, or if it's permanently broken.
And the Engstrom driver is beyond my capabilities -- I don't know what any of those instructions mean, either. :/
Maybe someone else here or on the Ubuntu forum can help you. |

Thanks, I'll let you know if i find any info about both options. I think it's time to learn some Perl (Engstrom's driver). Can anyone in this forum hold our hands with Engstrom's amazing driver?
btw,how can i check my xorg version? (i use ubunu 7.04 if it's help) and what is this thing anyway?

From the error it looks like you are missing the Xtst development package on your system. The linker is failing to find it. Trying searching for xtst in your distro's package manager and install the development libraries. For example, under Mandriva, if I search for xtst in the software manager it returns libXtst6.1.0.1-devel-3mdv2007.0 in the list of hits. Once you've install the Xtst development libs it should compile up then. You're past the tricky stage. Linker dependency errors are usually pretty easy to fix.
If you let me know which Linux distribution you are using I can probably send you scripts to sort this for you.

Thanks for the quick reply mitchelln, I am using Ubuntu 7.04. I'll search for the Xtst development package in synaptic and update you (and the rest of the world).

I searched for xtst in synaptic and found that I already have those: libxext6 and libxtet6.
I installed those: 1. libxex6-dbg 2. libxext-dev 3. libxtst6-dbg 4. libxtst-dev
I run the install X11::GUITest command and got this: GUITest.xs:41:27: error: X11/Intrinsic.h: No such file or directory
here is the exact output:
Writing Makefile for X11::GUITest cp GUITest.pm blib/lib/X11/GUITest.pm /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/perl/5.8/ExtUtils/xsubpp -typemap /usr/share/perl/5.8/ExtUtils/typemap -typemap typemap GUITest.xs > GUITest.xsc && mv GUITest.xsc GUITest.c cc -c -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/X/include -Wall -O2 -DVERSION=\"0.21\" -DXS_VERSION=\"0.21\" -fPIC "-I/usr/lib/perl/5.8/CORE" -DNDEBUG -DX11_GUITEST_ALT_L_FALLBACK_META_L GUITest.c GUITest.xs:41:27: error: X11/Intrinsic.h: No such file or directory GUITest.xs:42:28: error: X11/StringDefs.h: No such file or directory make: *** [GUITest.o] Error 1 /usr/bin/make -- NOT OK Running make test Can't test without successful make Running make install make had returned bad status, install seems impossible

You are doing this as the root user yes? You cannot compile up and install this as a normal user.

I tun it as root, got some warnings but no errors:
Running make install Installing /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/auto/X11/GUITest/GUITest.so Installing /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/auto/X11/GUITest/GUITest.bs Files found in blib/arch: installing files in blib/lib into architecture dependent library tree Installing /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/X11/GUITest.pm Installing /usr/local/man/man3/X11::GUITest.3pm Writing /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/auto/X11/GUITest/.packlist Appending installation info to /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/perllocal.pod /usr/bin/make install -- OK
let's assume that everything is ok.
I tun this command: sudo setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq 4 port 0x220 autoconfig and get this as a result: Cannot set serial info: Device or resource busy is it ok?
here are the rest of the instructions: At every boot you should run the following commands (as root): setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq 4 port 0x220 autoconfig chmod a+rwx /dev/ttyS0 1.how do i run it on boot? 2.how do I run them as root (add sudo at the beggining of each line?)
After that run one of these scripts in X: I dowoloaded the tablet6.pl but i don't know how to run it in X.
thanks

Hello, Please try; setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart 16550 setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq 4 (not really need, better save than sorry) setserial /dev/ttyS0 port 0x220
As i remember, the UART value is necessary.
Debian users only. Have a look for /usr/share/doc/setserial/serial.conf and change the values to meet the needs for the ttyS0.
Delete all the wacom stuff inside of the X config file.
Sorry, it' over a year now that i have work with the little P1510 and P1610. Hope the information will bring you forward. Maybe you will have a look at some old stuff at http://home.arcor.de/dstauda . I will check the tread within the next week.

Thanks for the reply!
setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart 16550 Cannot set serial info: Device or resource busy
setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq 4 nothing happened so I guess it's ok.
setserial /dev/ttyS0 port 0x220 Cannot set serial info: Device or resource busy
"Have a look for /usr/share/doc/setserial/serial.conf and change the values to meet the needs for the ttyS0." i opened this file. it's all commented and I don't understand what do you mean when you say to meet the need of ttys0'... here is the file:

In addition to the touchscreen I also have resolution problem when connecting to external monitor. samengstrom has a detailed page that solves it, but the instructions are not for begginer. can anyone guide me step by step? (I use Ubuntu 7.04)
http://samengstrom.com/nxl/10301/p1510_external_display_page.en.html
Thanks!

Hi, #/dev/ttyS0 uart 16450 port 0x3F8 irq 4 Unmark this line and change 16450 to 16550, 0x3F8 to 0x220 restart, guess, /etc/init.d/setserial Do a dmesg to see whar happens. Sorry, i do not have a P1610 at the moment, neither i have time to do some testing.

great, i will try it.
"...guess, /etc/init.d/setserial"
I didn't understand that. maybe you meant - restart and then run setserial again? what are the arguments for this command?
thanks!
